Prep & Pantry - Inventory Manager App Reviews

I thought that all ye good reviews were by employees of prep and pantry, but actually I was really impressed how responsive customer service was, and how well it works!

This app works exactly as advertised. There are a few items not found in the database, but it doesnt take much effort to fill in the Name and Description field. Id love to be able to connect to a database that also tracks the nutritional information for whats on my list. Hint Hint

They just made it run in landsape mode again - now its a perfect app; i use it more than almost any other app on my iPad.

So I decided to inventory my pantry for the new year, thought this would help. Not worth $1, much less 5. The shopping cart is buggy and does not add items automatically like it claims. The server is horrible, after every other item you have to restart the app or it will give you a server not found error. What a piece for an inventory app. Go elsewhere and save the money on canned goods.

Good software, love that Im able to scan in and out of inventory, love that it automatically creates a grocery list and can e-mail it to myself. I do wish that when I save the csv file to my computer thru itunes that it would include the tag associated with the inventoried item or even if the cart would let me sort the items by tag and then e-mail it to myself would be great. It would help me sort the list so I could be more organized when I get to the grocery store. Overall very happy with this purchase, have had no problems with the app. Thanks!

This is the best $5 ive spent! Its taken me a while to get the hang of this app - not becasue its difficult but becasue I was impatient and careless. I delelted the app, redownloaded and started over - actually reading the instructions this time and paying attnetion and I am so happy I could dance. Its actually very easy to use.. Unbelievably fast response to a question I submitted to the developer. There just arent enough ways to express how much I like this app or how helpful it is to me.

This app is so useful! It is one of my favorite things about owning an IPad and an iPhone. The syncing feature makes it so convenient. No more forgotten lists! Easy list making! It is a super helper!

Very well thought out app, must have it every pantry or food business. We run a food business and this app comes in very handy for managing what we have on hand and managing expiration dates. Anyone who has tried to manage good expiration dates on a spreadsheet can understand the pain. Expiration teaching becomes the most important thing for a food business. This app will manage inventory by expiration, easy to add and remove products (almost works like a pos system of a store), scan in, scan out, that simple. And the cloud based syncing is AWESOME, pick up an of the household iPhones with the app, all connected to the same group (created in the app) and all your changes show up instantly on all devices. Contacted customer support on an issue and with some upgrade ideas and heard back from them immediately. Very responsive and professional.

Ever since I first saw the iPhone, there was one app that I always imagined. It was an app where you could inventory the food in your house, keep track of expiration dates, and have all that info in the palm of your hand. How surprised was I to see that such an app exists! This app really is great, and I have to give high props to the developers here. But there is one thing that is keeping it from perfection. There should be a color coded system. If you are running low on an ingredient, you should be able to mark it, and it will show up as red. A simple red-yellow-green system would improve usability vastly. But great work guys, keep it up!

Im just getting started with this, but so far Im loving it! Very easy to set up & use. Best of all is the amazing tech support! I had a problem & sent an email to their help desk. Within 12 hours I had a (detailed) response that totally solved my problem. Very impressed! Worth the money got sure!

The app was a really good app then they did away with QR code scanning. I setup an inventory based on QR codes and used them in this app. Now the app doesnt work with them. Im out the money and have a useless inventory. Not everyone needs or wants to use UPC data.

Great for organizing and planning, but not as functional as Id like. Id like to be able to add items to my primary inventory I dont yet have straight away rather than to my cart as a "non-inventory" item. Would also like to be able to see inventory items Im out of in my primary inventory list. No need to have two separate list options when one will do.

Wish there was an option to just scan the barcode and enter the burn without having to enter a bunch of crap. Seriously, you DONT need an expiration date for everything especially canned goods.

I purchased this app about a month and a half ago. Ive tried using it frequently and am giving up for good today. It is a great concept, but the database is virtually unpopulated and it appears the the developer wants us to do it for them. I truly spent time trying to use it and maybe the issues Im having are solveable, but the help and how to section is limited. I did email the developer with a question and I have to give props as the reply was prompt!! Gotta love that. However, I cannot fathom emailing the developer with every question I have, which is many. Here is a gist on what you will encounter. Im not going to write out what the app does, that is in the details section here in iTunes store. Assuming you have read that before you get here, I pick up with what I have experienced. I have used the scanner at home to scan in my favorite and usual items. Many of them are missing from the database. I started putting them in on the fly, but had to go back to my day job. There was just too many items missing and typing in all the details on the small keyboard afforded by my iPhone...well, that just isnt happening. Fast forward to the grocery store. With my list of about 22 items in hand, I looked forward to my shopping trip with my new app : ) I had forgotten about the dragging experience in the kitchen when fiturally nothing worked when I scanned it. Duh! So, Im finding my items on the shelf and ready to scan them dutifullly and they arent in there so Im manually entering each of them and starting to get really frustrated. Its been over 40 minutes Ive wasted with a really short list! I just cant do all this typing, but I really wanted the app to work for me, but it needs to auto-populate somehow. I wouldnt mind contributing to the database, but not from my iPhone. I would probably be happy to type in all the details (I tend to be a person who uses an app to its fullest potential) if I had a way to do so from my computer. I do want to emphasize that developer seemed really enthusastic about their prodcut and that says a lot these days. Id rather have a developer who is commited and has an app that still has a ways to go instead of a developer who just isnt invested even though their app is further along. I feel that in the long run the first scenario garners better results for the user experience.

Great app to help keep track of your prepping supplies, from food to first aid kits. Definitely recommend!

This app is awesome!!! If you actually use it, it will save you time and money. I never have to worry about going to the grocery store and forgetting to pick something up (which saves time by sparing me from having to go back for a second trip later on). I never have to worry about purchasing items I already have in stock, but forgot or didnt realize I even had (saving me money by sparing me from purchasing the same thing twice). It also saves me money by letting me know with the click of a single button, when foods I have are about to expire - so I can make a concerted effort to ensure theyre consumed prior to their expiration date, after which I would have had to throw them out. The only downside to this app at all is that in order for you to benefit in the same ways I do, to the extent that I do, you have to stay committed to tracking your inventory - if you buy something and dont scan it, then forget you bought it, youre liable to accidentally purchasing it again - so you need to stay committed to using this. But if you do, it is impossible not to save time and money.

Ive been using this app for more than a year. I love the level of detail...tags, storage areas (my preps are kept in different places for convenience - food in the pantry, medical in the storage room, paperwork in the office, etc). Im always excited to get the updates because Doug continues to make huge improvements in the program. My favorite feature is "sorting" - you can sort lists by location, by expiration dates, by individual tag, etc., etc., etc!!!! Im a huge list person and this is one of my favorite apps :-)

I was frustrated by the limitations of grocery lists. Each item has to be added, then crossed off. If Im standing in the soup aisle, for example, and I wonder whether or not were out of pea soup, a shopping list may not tell me. But this app lets me inventory my food, and out of the dozens of foods Ive entered via bar code, there were only two or three that werent in the database. Im able to know what Ive got, the size of the package, number of servings, and expiration date. I can quickly set a minimum number of some item that I want to have on hand, and have the item appear on my shopping list when we have less than that amount. This app is exactly what Ive been looking for. The only thing Id like to be able to do that I dont think I currently can is to have a way to add new items for which I dont have, or havent chosen, a particular brand or package. Otherwise, a great app.

Like the app. But, after reading the the privacy policy, I wish I would have never bought it. Please read it before you purchase.

This app has been so much help to me, in many ways. I would like to see a way to check inventory turns of individual items. Also, total calories would be nice as well as calories per "tag". Keep up the good work!
